Ohio Birth Records search

There are a few important facts you should know about Ohio birth records.  Ohio birth records are either obtained from the Ohio Department of Health, Vital Statistics or the city or county office in which the person was born.  You may obtain the certificate in person at the Ohio Department of Health, Vital Statistics, 225 Neilston Street, Columbus, Ohio.   The hours are Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.  It usually takes 30 minutes to receive the record.  If you arrive after 4:30 you may not receive the records that day and will have to schedule at another time to pick it up or have it mailed to you in a week. 
           
If it is easier for you to have Ohio birth records mailed to you.  The address is Ohio Department of Health, 246 N. High Street, P.O. Box 15098, Columbus, Ohio 43215-0098.  It will take at least two weeks to receive the certificate through the mail.  It any legal changes are made to the certificate because of adoption, or establishing paternity, etc. it will take one to six months for it to be delivered.

If you need an apostille, an authenticated birth certificate for international use, first you must request a birth dertificate from the Office of Vital Records. There will be an additional $5.00 charge for authentication payable to Secretary of State of Ohio. You need to identify the country that you are requesting the identification for. If you order a certified copy of a death certificate with a credit card, you use Vitalchek.
